Gotta Catch 'Em All!: New York Fashion Week Day Three

"It's like Pokemon," said Hunter, one of the other street style photographers I kicked it with today, "gotta catch 'em all!" And by all he meant Hanne Gaby Odiele, Karlie Kloss, Anna Wintour, Kate Lanphear, Taylor Tomasi Hill, and numerous other models, editors, and socialites whose visages are coveted by all the kids with cameras out on the sidewalks. It's like a mania, keeping photographers out in the cold, frigid air, barely stopping for food or drink, far longer than is healthy for anyone. A lot of the people out there shooting need shots of all those big-name fashionistas. Their editors demand it. But for guys like Hunter it's a sport. The payoff is an adrenaline rush and bragging rights. It's easy to get swept up in it. The crowd moves and I do too, geese switching course in mid-flight. But I'm ready to start to stand apart, to cover the smaller shows, seek out the cool kids with no names to speak of. The high of fashion week is wearing off for me. I'm going to need a different kind of drug.
