Philly Style Blogger Profile: Chaucee Stillman

Name: Chaucee Stillman
Hometown: Lancaster, PA
Currently Based in: Philadelphia
Age: 22
Blog: Streets and Stripes
Day Job: Hotel desk clerk/wedding photographer
What She's Listening to These Days: Lykke Li, Santigold, Theophilus London, "conscious rap"
How She Describes Her Style: Simple. "Life is so crazy that my style goes back to the basics."

Chaucee wears lots of stripes and muted, winter colors. She likes things to be functional but sharp, comfortable but feminine. She carries her camera with her wherever she goes and doesn't own a single pair of shorts.

Chaucee has been doing her blog, Streets and Stripes, since 2008. She describes it as a "life + style" blog, though these days it has become increasingly about Philadelphia as a visual subject and a creative city. She has started a new feature on her blog as well, dedicated to "Fellow Philadelphians" doing interesting things. I will be featured next week. Our meeting last Friday was a classic style blogger's duel.

Chaucee is a recent college grad and finally moved to Philadelphia around a month ago after hovering on its periphery for years. She's now attempting to experience, and document, as much of it as possible.

Chaucee has never had any formal training in photography, though she now earns part of her living from her professional photographic practice. She has learned instead, she explains, through the tutelage of experienced photographers she's had the good fortune of coming across. For that reason, she believes in being generous with her knowledge, freely admitting the settings she uses and the effects she employs. I'm particularly fond of the washed out, ethereal look of much of her work, as if Philadelphia were a foggy beach town, instead of a rough-and-tumble post-industrial city. Check out her stuff at Streets and Stripes.
